Care & Maintenance

Daily Care

1. **Clean Spills Immediately:** Marble and granite are porous, so wipe up spills promptly to prevent staining.
2. **Use Mild Soap:** Clean your countertops daily with a soft cloth or sponge and a mild dish soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can scratch the surface.
3. **Avoid Acidic Cleaners:** Acidic substances like lemon juice, vinegar, and some commercial cleaners can etch or dull the surface of marble and granite. Use pH-neutral cleaners instead.
4. **Use Cutting Boards:** To prevent scratching, always use a cutting board when chopping or slicing food.
5. **Use Trivets and Hot Pads:** Marble and granite can be damaged by heat, so use trivets or hot pads under hot cookware to protect the surface.
6. **Avoid Dragging Heavy Objects:** Dragging heavy pots or appliances across the countertop can scratch or chip the surface. Lift and place them instead.
7. **Use Coasters:** Use coasters under glasses and mugs to prevent water rings.

Weekly Care

1. **Deep Clean:** Once a week, clean your countertops with a stone cleaner specifically designed for marble or granite. These cleaners are gentle and will not damage the surface.
2. **Seal Granite:** Granite should be resealed every 1-3 years, depending on usage. To test if your granite needs sealing, place a few drops of water on the surface. If it beads up, your seal is intact. If it absorbs into the stone, it's time to reseal.
3. **Polish Marble:** To keep marble countertops looking their best, polish them with a marble polish every few months. This will help maintain their shine and protect them from stains.

Long-Term Care

1. **Avoid Harsh Chemicals:** Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on your countertops, as they can damage the surface over time.
2. **Reseal as Needed:** Monitor the condition of your countertops and reseal them as needed to protect them from stains and damage.
3. **Professional Maintenance:** Consider hiring a professional stone restoration specialist to periodically clean and maintain your countertops, especially if they show signs of wear or damage.
